Why is water leaking from the bottom of my garbage disposal?
Garbage disposals are connected to your sink with a flange and/or plumber’s putty.
If your garbage disposal is leaking out of the bottom (and not from higher up and just dripping to the bottom), the most likely cause is the actual garbage disposal itself.
There are internal seals that wear out over time.
What do you do when your garbage disposal leaks from the bottom?
Check the sink flange when your garbage disposal leaking is water from the top
- First, turn off the power and unplug your garbage disposal.
- Disconnect your garbage disposal from under your sink.
- Remove any preexisting putty and reseal the area.
- Once you have resealed the area, you can now reconnect your garbage disposal.
Why is my garbage disposal leaking from the top?
If the garbage disposer is leaking from the very top rim where the rubber seal mounts to the flange the cause could be the big rubber gasket on the top of garbage disposal. Long periods of disuse when there is no water in the drain and garbage disposal can cause the gasket to dry up and leak.
Can you run the dishwasher if the garbage disposal is leaking?
Your disposal being busted won’t affect the dishwasher in any way what-so-ever. Water that goes down your sink and through your disposal doesn’t go into your dishwasher, it goes down the drain and out of your house. The dishwasher gets clean water from the same source as your faucet.
